spring/summer 2010 fashion trends

“Design is inspired by ideals and alternatives; indigenous cultures of Oceania and Africa are all interpreted within a modern context. Coastal extremes, Aboriginal art and African aesthetics present a pleasing clash of values and blend of cultural unity. Tribal rhythms are balanced with innovative use of natural materials and resources.”

Fashion Interpretation:

Utopia has a fresh spirit with natural bases interspersed with vivid citrus and raspberry tones. Shocks of hot pink, tropical orange and deep oceanic blues bring the palette to life. Fabrics are dominated by a desire to conserve our natural resources and frequently reference nature in the prints. Airy, soft and fluid fabrics are essential to create the relaxed silhouette of this trend; created with fabrics such as bio-colour cotton or lightweight seersucker. Summery rolled sleeves, bleached out pastel denim and laidback styling are all key to the surf inspired look. Tie-dye is revived as a summer essential for a retro touch.
